Skin cancer, especially the aggressive form melanoma, is becoming increasingly common. New research shows that the location of this cancer varies between men and women. In men, melanoma is most often found on the torso—the back, chest, or abdomen. In women, this type of skin cancer is more common on the legs. This is according to a study by Cancer Research UK (CRUK) in the United Kingdom. According to the researchers, the difference in location is likely due to differences in clothing and behavior between men and women. Men often go shirtless in warm weather. Women, on the other hand, are more likely to wear skirts or shorts, exposing their legs to more sun. Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer that can grow and spread quickly. If not detected early, it can be life-threatening. Therefore, it is important to check your skin regularly and, if in doubt, consult your doctor immediately.
