Melanoma is the most common cancer in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is also seeing a significant increase in the number of people diagnosed with skin cancer. Melanoma, in particular, is becoming increasingly common. In 2024, nearly 60,000 people in the Netherlands were diagnosed with this condition, making it the most common form of cancer in the Netherlands. This number is expected to rise again in the coming year. The main cause of melanoma is exposure to UV radiation, such as sunlight or tanning beds. Approximately 65 percent of all cases arise from this. People who frequently burn, especially as children, are at increased risk. People with fair skin, freckles, or many moles also need to be extra vigilant. Burning early in life can lead to skin cancer decades later. That’s why applying sunscreen and staying out of the sun during the hottest part of the day is so important. Michelle Mitchell, director of CRUK, says it’s crucial to see your doctor quickly if you notice anything unusual on your skin. “An early diagnosis can really make a difference,” she said in an interview with The Guardian. By treating it early, the chance of recovery is much greater. How do you recognize melanoma? Continued on the next page 👇 To continue, click the button below the ad ⤵️
