How do you recognize melanoma? It’s important to know what to look for when checking your skin. A melanoma can look like a regular mole, but it often has distinctive features. Below is a list of symptoms that can help you recognize melanoma: A mole that changes in color, shape, or size A mole that is asymmetrical (the two halves are not the same) An irregular or ragged border A mole with multiple colors (brown, black, red, or blue) An itchy, bleeding, or painful mole A new mole that develops where you didn’t have a mole before Check your skin regularly, especially on your back, chest, legs, and arms. If necessary, ask someone else to look at your back and neck. Use a mirror if you’re having trouble seeing something.
